What Is Medical Nutrition Therapy?

MNT involves a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s nutritional needs, medical history, and lifestyle factors to develop a personalized nutrition plan that addresses their unique health concerns.

MNT may include nutrition education, meal planning, and ongoing support to help individuals manage their medical conditions and improve their overall health outcomes. It is often used to manage conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and cancer, among others.
MNT is an evidence-based approach to nutrition therapy, with recommendations based on the latest scientific research and tailored to the individual’s specific needs. MNT is typically provided by an RDN who has met certain education and training requirements and has passed a national registration exam. The provision of MNT is often covered by health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, making it an accessible and effective form of medical treatment.
